Background of the Study
Moral education is recognized as a foundational element in developing sound decision-making skills, especially as students begin to make critical career choices. In Yola South Local Government Area, Adamawa State, the integration of moral education into the academic curriculum aims to guide students in making informed, ethically grounded career decisions (Umar, 2023). This study explores how moral education influences students’ perceptions of various career paths by instilling values such as integrity, responsibility, and social awareness. Recent research has highlighted that students exposed to comprehensive moral education exhibit higher levels of critical thinking and self-reflection during their career planning processes (Yusuf, 2024). In Yola South, educators use diverse pedagogical strategies—including discussions, mentorship programs, and community service initiatives—to embed moral values within the context of career guidance. These approaches help students assess their strengths and interests while considering the ethical implications of future professional roles. The educational environment here emphasizes holistic development, where moral education is viewed as integral to balancing academic and career success. This study investigates the role of moral education in shaping career aspirations by examining its impact on decision-making processes. It considers how moral values influence career choice and the extent to which ethical considerations are incorporated into professional planning. Furthermore, the study situates moral education within the broader socio-cultural context of Yola South, acknowledging the interplay between traditional values and contemporary career demands. The anticipated findings will provide insights into how effectively moral education prepares students for career challenges, supporting the development of future professionals who are both ethically and academically equipped. Ultimately, by bridging theoretical frameworks with practical career guidance, this research aims to inform educational reforms that emphasize ethical decision-making in career development.

Statement of the Problem
Despite the recognized importance of moral education in guiding career choices, there is a notable gap in understanding how moral principles translate into practical career decision-making among students in Yola South LGA, Adamawa State (Abubakar, 2023). Many students struggle to align their career aspirations with ethical considerations, often due to a lack of structured guidance that integrates moral education with career planning. This disconnect can result in career choices that do not fully reflect the students’ personal values or long-term professional goals (Bello, 2024). Furthermore, existing career guidance programs tend to emphasize academic performance and economic prospects while overlooking the moral dimensions of career decisions. Limited teacher training in linking moral education with career counseling, as well as insufficient institutional support, further exacerbates this problem (Chinedu, 2023). Consequently, students may be inadequately prepared to navigate ethical dilemmas during career planning, leading to potential mismatches between their values and chosen professions. This study seeks to identify the factors that hinder the effective contribution of moral education to career decision-making and to propose strategies to bridge the gap between moral instruction and practical career guidance. Addressing these challenges is essential for ensuring that students make career choices that are congruent with both their personal ethics and professional aspirations, thereby fostering a generation of ethically grounded professionals.

Objectives of the Study:

  1. To assess the impact of moral education on students’ career decision-making.

  2. To identify the challenges in integrating moral education with career guidance.

  3. To propose strategies for enhancing the role of moral education in career decision-making processes.

Research Questions:

  1. How does moral education influence students’ career choices in Yola South?

  2. What are the main challenges in combining moral education with career guidance?

  3. What strategies can improve the integration of moral education in career decision-making?

Research Hypotheses:

  1. H1: Moral education significantly influences students’ career decision-making.

  2. H2: There is a gap between theoretical moral education and its practical application in career guidance.

  3. H3: Enhanced integration of moral education and career counseling leads to more ethically aligned career choices.

Significance of the Study
This study is significant as it provides a critical appraisal of the contribution of moral education to students’ career decision-making in Yola South. The findings will inform educators, career counselors, and policymakers on how to integrate ethical considerations into career guidance effectively. By bridging the gap between moral education and career planning, the research promotes the development of professionals who are both ethically sound and well-prepared for modern workforce challenges, contributing to a more responsible and values-driven professional community.

Scope and Limitations of the Study:
This study is limited to examining the role of moral education in influencing students’ career decision-making in Yola South LGA, Adamawa State. The focus is solely on the integration of moral education with career guidance and does not extend to other educational domains.

Definitions of Terms:

  1. Moral Education: The process of imparting ethical values and principles to students.

  2. Career Decision-Making: The process through which individuals assess options and make informed career choices.

  3. Ethical Considerations: The assessment of moral principles and values in decision-making contexts.
